San Francisco Day 2

Today was a biking across the Golgen Gate Bridge day. We were meeting with Wei at IHOP for breakfast. Surprisingly, IHOP in SF was a bit more expensive than the ones in NJ. After the breakfast, we walked over to the Fisherman's Wharf to rent bikes at Blazing Saddles Bike Rentals. Our plan was to bike across the bridge to Sausalito, then take the Blue & Gold Fleet ferry back to SF. We rode along the Wharf passing Aquatic Park close to the Ghirardelli square, then to the Municipal pier, and through the Fort Mason area, which was the first steep hill we encoutered on our bike route. Next we rode along Marina street and stopped by the Exploratorium located at the Palace of Fine Arts. The structure is pretty amazing.

We then continued biking passing the Presidio area and stopped by a place below the bridge to take some rest and also some pictures. The Golden Gate Bridge was in the fog. It was beautiful. I really liked the fact that it was in the fog. It really made the bridge more.. san francisco like.. :) Now to the bridge..we rode on the road up the hill to where the bride started. It was quite an easy hill and wasn't as challenging as we had thought. Riding on the bridge through the fog was an amazing and incredible experience!! The wind was blowing against me while riding, wasn't that bad until we had to turn around the two big red pole. There, the wind blew sideway and I almost lost my balance on the bike! It was also so amazing that the fog was gone by the time we reached the other side of the Bay. There, we kindda didn't know where to go next and asked around. Turned out we had to ride along a highway. It was a bit scary.

Finally we reached Sausalito. It was beautiful but just like any other marina towns.. nice beach houses, cute stores and restaurants. We stopped by for some snack and sat around enjoying the scenery. We then took a ferry back to the Fisherman's Wharf. The ride back was pretty nice, cool and sunny.

Since we still had some time, Wei took us riding along the waterfront to go to the Ferry Building. We stopped by a few other piers and saw a chinese family crabbing. They did catch a few crabs! We finally reached the Ferry Building which was located at the Embarcadero area. There were a few interesting stores in there, for example, a cool chocolate store, an olive oil store, and a mushroom store where they were selling only mushrooms... any kinds of mushrooms, even Japanese cute mushroom chocolate! We had some snack there (if you count Japanese beef curry on rice as snack!) and finally rode back to return the bikes. We went back to the hotel to shower and to take some rest before coming back to North Beach for a yummy Italian restaurant for dinner.
